Bank of Singapore has announced the appointment of Mr Robert Reid (利晋枫) as its Global Head of Alternative Investments and Managed Solutions (另类投资和管理投资环球主管) with effect from 30 May 2022.
He will report to Mr Lim Leong Guan, Global Head of Products (林良源, 环球产品部主管), and have a local reporting line to Ms Teresa Lee, Head of Greater China, Hong Kong Branch (李凯琳, 业务香港总监大中华).
Based in Hong Kong, Mr Reid will drive the expansion of the Bank’s alternative investments and managed solutions offerings. He will lead a team that will be responsible for the growth of the ecosystem of leading partners in this space to cater to different client preferences.
Bank of Singapore has seen heightened interest in alternative investments, such as private markets, real estate, hedge funds and direct investments in recent years – particularly amongst family offices and ultra-high net worth individuals. In 2021, it saw a 60 per cent increase in flows towards alternative investments.
With 30 years of legal, consulting and financial services experience in the Asia-Pacific region, Mr Reid was most recently the Country Head of Hong Kong and Taiwan at BlackRock, having joined the firm eight years ago as the Head of Strategy and Chief Operating Officer for the iShares business in Asia.
Mr Reid has also held senior leadership roles in global asset management and sell-side firms, where he led large, cross-functional teams in delivering outstanding financial performance.
Commenting on Mr Reid’s appointment, Mr Lim Leong Guan, Global Head of Products, said: “We are pleased to welcome Robert to the Bank of Singapore family. We have seen significant growth in our alternatives and managed solutions business in recent years. Robert’s appointment underscores our commitment and ambition to increase alternative investments and managed solutions as a core holding in our clients’ portfolios and to deliver unique and differentiated solutions for the benefit of our clients. His exemplary track record in building and managing businesses in the wealth industry in Asia will be crucial to accelerating and delivering these ambitions.”
With Shanghainese parentage, Mr Reid is a Mandarin speaker and has lived and worked in Hong Kong for most of his career, originally practising as a corporate finance solicitor in England and Hong Kong. He received a joint honours degree in Law & Sociology from the University of Warwick, UK, and counts trail running, alpine mountaineering, kayaking and cooking as his passions.
